Broomstick Lace

I recently discovered broomstick lace and was amazed to find out that it’s relatively easy to do once you get used to handling the broomstick pin along with the yarn in one hand and the crochet hook in the other.

To get some practice while actually making something, I purchased this washcloth pattern. It was simple to make; however, I changed the border just a teensy bit in one area because I felt like a stitch was missing.

Personally, I don’t think I’d use the cloth, but I do think it and a nice bar of homemade soap would make a lovely gift.

I must also mention the yarn that I used: Rowan RYC Cotton Jeans. It worked up like a dream, and it has a wonderful drape to it. To top that, it’s 100% cotton. I bought a couple of balls of it when I went shopping with a friend a couple of weeks ago; now I wish I had bought a lot more. I really wish I’d saved the ball I used on the cloth for something else, but it did make a lovely piece. Ah well, no sense in crying over used yarn–it just gives me an excuse to buy some more!
